I own a number of single board computers. Pretty much all of them are ARM based. This is my first Intel based SBC. This thing blows the ARM based boards out of the water in terms of performance. Setup is a breeze, since there is no hassle and complications with getting ARM based packages or setting up cross compilers (using Linux). The board looks very well made, and I like the integrated heatsink. It would be nice if they were priced a little lower to allow them to compete more with all the new ARM based boards flooding the market, but for the performance, they can't be beat.

There's a new Gizmo board which is AMD based coming out (may already be out by now), however, the cost is twice that of the Minnowboard Max, and the features almost exactly the same. I don't see why anyone would get the Gizmo board when you can get the same (or better) with the new Minnowboard Max.

I highly recommend these boards to anyone interested in SBCs.

I had got this board with the intention of running windows 10 and to run it with basic programs. I was very excited to play with this little board. I love playing with small form factor devices and have built many carpc even long befor it was a thing. but my excitement was short lived, as this board was plagued with many hardware issues off the batt. first the USB is iffy causing the unit not to boot mostly if you plug more then one device at a time.

Second the USB is not not hot swappable, you'll have to reboot it.

Third the HDMI is old and out dated and will not work with some monitors the HDMI signal is also very low to where some monitors will not detect it.

Fourth the power input should have been in micro-usb, its to easy to mistake a barrel style power input that is 12v. And yes it did happen to me.but at lest I have the knowledge to repair the board.

They did come out with a new model the turbot but at this point I'm too afraid to drop another 150 bucks. It is a nice try and an awesome idea I would love to see the makers of this board do more but there need to be more testing before a push to the market

Originally the minnowboard max was special order only via (mouser.com "26 week wait time") I am pleased to see it on Amazon now. The minnowboard max I purchased from mouser has satisfied my every need when it comes to developmental and experimental testing within the work - place, and it is currently being used to test (Microtouch) touchscreens and plenty of other peripheral devices, such as RS232 Printers (via usb to serial adapter) and MEI bill validators, and has not failed to impress me or show any limit to it's abilities or capabilities. Unlike most single-board development boards the minnowboard max can run 64bit architecture operating systems such as Ubuntu and Windows 8. The minnowboard max community is rather small making it difficult to find help if you do something silly, such as change the bios settings for video to VGA only, however, they do have an emailing list where you can find some assistance if you get stuck.

I have only a few suggestions if you buy this board and that is to purchase an FTDI cable (just incase you make a serious mistake and can't get to the bios settings) this will allow you to connect to the minnowboard via its serial headers to a laptop or pc. I would also suggest a USB 3.0 hub that has it's own power supply and has no "back-flow voltage". My last bit of advice is to get the minnowboard it's own separate power supply; I had some issues when I allowed the minnowboard to share ground(Negative Voltage) with other peripherals that used higher voltage when attached to a full-range PC ATX power supply.
